Linen is made from flax. Flax is one of the strongest and most durable textile fibres in the world. Months pass between the growth of the plant, the spinning of a yarn and the weaving of a linen fabric. The plant grows to a height of over a metre in just 100 days. After a short flowering period, the flax stalks are pulled from the ground and dried in the field, so that the fibre can be extracted from the plant. The rest of the plant is used in various materials, there is no waste left. At the spinner, the flax fibres are spun into a yarn and then woven into a Belgian linen fabric at Flemish weaving mills.

Each step in the process requires extensive expertise and specific skills.

Belgian linen has a rich history that goes back to (Flanders in) 1858. At that time, weaving was still the specialty of the flax farmers, an additional income during the harsh winter months when it was too cold to work the land. Each linen fabric was transported by horse and cart to Kortrijk, at that time the center of the flax industry. At the station you could find Libeert & Compagnie, a brand that is still an international player on the Belgian linen market. They sold the flax to traders who came from all over the world for the coveted Flemish flax.

This wall covering is not sold per roll, but cut to size, per linear metre as required.
The wallpaper is extra wide, 130 cm (!) and is therefore sold per length meter.
For example, if you need 6 meters, you enter 6. You will then receive a roll of 1.30 meters wide. And 6 meters in one piece (length). The maximum length per roll of linen wallpaper is 12 meters.
