1838 Wallcoverings Kyoto Blossom

Kyoto Blossom | Prussian Blue

This beautiful scene is adapted from a kimono in the V&A archive. A dramatic, large-scale mural celebrating traditional Japanese craftsmanship; the pattern perfectly captures the beauty of these majestic birds and cherry blossom trees, with rippling water below. A cloud-like background texture in deep Prussian Blue adds depth and movement. Available in 4 colours: Prussian Blue, Golden Yellow, Mist and Sandstone. One roll contains 4 panels (A, B, C & D) for the complete design. The design can be continued across additional walls by using a new roll in the same order (A B C D) until the desired area is covered. Depending on the wall height, the panel can be trimmed at the top or bottom, or both, to create the desired scene. Archive inspiration Kyoto Blossom Mural: embroidered kimono, Kyoto, circa 1860-1900. The V&A holds one of the world's most complete collections of Japanese art, including ceramics, woodwork, prints, paintings, sculpture, textiles and clothing. This kimono's design illustrates the close connection between painting and textile art in Japan. The garment's surface functions like a hanging scroll, creating a hand-painted image of elegant cranes beneath plum blossoms and pine trees, using a resist-dyeing technique. In Japan, the crane is a symbolic bird believed to bring good luck, prosperity and long life.
