1838 Wallcoverings Garland of Ragini

Garland of Ragini | Day

Featuring peacocks, stylized palms and lotus blossoms on a tranquil river, this enchanting wall mural is based on an exquisite Indian artwork from the early 18th century. Dramatically enlarged from a small, hand-painted painting into a striking, large-scale mural, the pattern now repeats across the wall in a glorious celebration of the spirit of the original masterpiece. In the Day colorway, beautiful shades of deep blue, aqua and green make up this pictorial landscape scene. One roll contains 4 panels (A, B, C and D) for the complete design. The design can be repeated to cover additional walls by using another roll in the same order (A B C D) until the desired area is covered. Depending on the wall height, the panel can be trimmed at the top, bottom or both sides to create the desired scene. Archival inspiration for the Garland of Ragini mural: illustration from a ragamala series, ink and opaque watercolor on paper, Deccan, South India, circa 1700. This mural is based on a ragamala illustration of the musical mode Kakubha Ragini, which flourished at the royal courts of India in the 18th and 19th centuries. The unifying theme of a ragamala is love, depicted through diverse emotions and their associated musical forms. This contemporary interpretation conveys the night and day aspects of this important painting genre and captures the compelling symbolism, history and artistry of the original.
