Primers and undercoats

USING PRIMER OR UNDERCOAT

Primer is also known as undercoat and is an important step in preparing your painting project. When you first apply a layer of primer, the paint will adhere better. This ensures a more beautiful end result and better protection of the paintwork. You mainly use primer when painting a new, untreated surface. But also when going from a dark to a light color and the surface adheres poorly.

5 REASONS TO APPLY PRIMER

  1. Better adhesion, especially on untreated and damaged wood, metal, and porous surfaces such as plaster and concrete.
  2. Smoother surface: primer helps to smooth out small imperfections. This results in a more even and beautiful end result.
  3. Covering stains: is the wood discolored or are there stains on a wall? Primer covers this up and prevents it from showing after painting.
  4. Better protection of the surface, for example against moisture, rust, and mold. Especially when using primer for outdoor painting, you will enjoy your paint project longer.
  5. Neutral base: the primer provides a blank canvas allowing the new color to fully come into its own.

DIFFERENT LAB PRIMERS

LAB has primers for various painting jobs in its range. LAB multiprimer is the ideal start for those who want to paint with LAB interior paint or LAB exterior paint on wood, MDF, metal, zinc, aluminum, and plastic. Are you painting wood exclusively? Then use LAB wood primer indoors or LAB wood primer outdoors. LAB wallfix is a primer with which you can pre-treat powdery and absorbent surfaces such as new plaster both indoors and outdoors, and LAB chalk primer is a durable and specially breathable primer. The product is developed for stabilizing surfaces finished with LAB chalk (lime paint).
