Step-by-step plan LAB Stair Coating

1. Vacuum the stairs.
2. Degrease the stairs with LAB cleaner. Mix 10 parts lukewarm water with 1 part cleaner. Apply it with a Premium Cleaning Sponge (use the green side). The cleaner is very concentrated. Use gloves and be careful not to spill anything on walls, objects, or floors that you are not going to treat.
3. Remove the remaining paint remover with clean water after 1 hour.
4. After drying, sand the stairs with Schuurspons oranje grof no. 1, Schuurspons geel medium no. 2, Schuurspons groen fijn no. 3 or Schuurspons blauw ultra fijn no. 4, choose the right sponge depending on the condition of the stairs.
5. Make dust-free with a slightly damp cloth.
6. Fill in damages with filler.
7. Seal joints where necessary with Den Braven Hybriseal sealant. (Use a color that most closely matches the color of the paint).
8. Neatly tape off parts not to be painted with LAB Tape Purple for sensitive surfaces.
9. Apply 1 layer of LAB Wood Primer Interior (base coat).
10. Check the stairs for any irregularities or imperfections (lint from a roller, hairs from a brush, layer thickness differences) and sand with Schuurspons groen fijn no. 3, depending on the surface. If there are no irregularities, the stairs do not need to be sanded.
11. Apply the first layer of LAB Floor Coating. Mix the coating mechanically (with a paint mixer and cordless drill). Thoroughly mix the A component (large can) and the B component (small can) together in the A component can. Then pour the mixed coating into an empty can and mix well again. Never mix more than you use in one layer. After mixing, you have about 1 hour to apply the mixed coating.
12. 6 hours waiting (is our advice. If the room is 18-21 degrees and the stairs are dry and walkable after 4 hours, you can apply the next layer).
13. Check the stairs for any irregularities or imperfections (lint from a roller, hairs from a brush, layer thickness differences) and sand away with Blue ultra-fine sanding sponge no. 4. If there are no irregularities, the stairs do not need to be sanded.
14. Apply 2nd layer Step 3 LAB Floor Coating, mix and apply in the same way as the first layer LAB Floor Coating.
15. Check if the coverage is good and apply a 3rd layer if necessary. For gray colors, the coverage is generally always good after 2 layers of coating. White colors cover less well.
16. 6 hours waiting (is our advice. If the room is 18-21 degrees and the stairs are dry and walkable after 4 hours, you can apply the next layer).
17. DO NOT SAND!
18. For extra wear resistance, apply a transparent wear layer (1 x) LAB Floor Coating Wear Resistant. Mix this as indicated.
19. Wait 4 hours.
20. LAB Tape Purple carefully remove. If you pull up the coating with the tape locally, carefully cut the connection between the tape and the stairs with a sharp utility knife.

NOTE!

• The curing of the coating takes 1 week. During this week, walk on socks. You can already access the stairs 4 hours after the last layer applied.
• Keep windows and doors closed while applying the coating. Ensure it is not too warm during coating (no warmer than 19 degrees). Then the coating dries too quickly.
• White colors cover significantly less well than gray tones. Depending on the applied layer thickness and color of the laminate/wood, 3-4 layers need to be applied for an evenly covering result, while gray tones are generally fully covering in 2 layers.
